That’s Quite a Flex

On my days off work, you can usually find me out taking pictures. Yesterday was no exception. My camera of choice was my Ciro-flex C TLR. To read about how I aquired it, check out my first post about this camera.

I loaded it with a roll of Arista EDU Ultra 400. I chose a 400 speed film because it was kind of gray and gloomy out. But as soon as I got outside, the sun came out and offered up some sunny skies and bright scenes. This camera’s fastest shutter speed is 1/200th of a second. I was worried I’d need a faster shutter speed, but I made it work.

I am always so impressed that equipment that old can produce such technically sharp photographs

I developed the film in Kodak D-76 1:1 for 13 minutes at 68°. I switched up my agitation technique slightly in attempt to increase contrast. I agitated continuously for the first full minute, then four inversions every 30 seconds after that.

As I mentioned in my first post about this camera, it’s a 77 year old piece of equipment. I am always so impressed that equipment that old can produce such technically sharp photographs.

My Ciro-flex is equipped with a Wollensak 85mm / f3.5 lens. As the photos below show, it’s a very capable lens. Wollensak was an American company based in Rochester, NY. They began manufacturing lenses in 1899.
