My objective in taking photos is often less about creating art, but about simply trying out a “new” camera, roll of film or developer. That was true in the case of the roll of film I’m posting about here. But dangit, I’m proud of these shots.
I’d gone two full weekends being unable to go out and take photos. Two weekends ago, it rained the whole time. This past weekend, I was sick for most of it…and it rained for part of it. I’d had a roll of film loaded up in the Hasselblad 500cm for several weeks, just sitting there waiting patiently.
Finally on Monday, the weather cleared up (and so did my achiness and sneezing fits). The camera was loaded with a roll of Rollie RPX 100. I’d never shot this film before. I’d purchased a single roll of it to try out at some point. I ventured out and shot the whole roll in less than an hour. When it came time to develop it, I did a little research on developers. The Internet was loud and clear that Rodinal 1:50 with this film is a hard combination to beat.
But dangit, I’m proud of these shots.
I now hold that same belief. These pictures are just so good! Not the composititions or content, necessarily. But the contrast, tonal range and fine grain. **chef’s kiss**
Below are ten shots from the roll. I’m not posting all twelve. The first frame was a misfire and you don’t get to see that. And another frame has been saved to be posted later to my Instagram account. Over there I post exclusive content that’s not available anywhere else, not even on this blog. So you should go over there and follow that account. 😉
