Notes & History

Notes

Introduced around 1974, the Pentax SP 1000 is a masterclass in mechanical simplicity. It is part of the legendary Asahi Pentax Spotmatic family—the cameras that arguably did more than any other to popularize the 35mm SLR format in the 1960s and 70s.

The “Honeywell” badge simply means it was imported to the United States. Honeywell was the official US distributor, so identical cameras sold in Europe or Japan were branded as “Asahi Pentax” instead.
