Historical Context

Introduced in 1938, the Kodak Brownie Special Six-16 is a remarkable departure from the traditional cardboard and leatherette box cameras of the era. Designed by the legendary American industrial designer Walter Dorwin Teague (who also designed the Jiffy Kodak Six-16), it is an incredibly robust, all-metal camera that looks almost like a prop from a 1930s sci-fi serial.

Rather than a standard rectangular box, the Special Six-16 features a distinct trapezoidal (or wedge) shape with ribbed Art Deco metal styling around the base and viewfinder.
