Historical Context
Produced from 1946 through 1952, the Kodak Brownie Target Six-20 is the quintessential mid-century American box camera. It’s what most people picture in their head when they hear the phrase “vintage camera”—a simple, leatherette-wrapped rectangular box with a brilliant Art Deco faceplate.
Mechanically, the Target Six-20 is as rudimentary as photography gets. The camera body is literally constructed from heavy cardboard and stamped sheet metal, wrapped in a black imitation leather covering.
It features no internal focusing mechanism, no varying shutter speeds, and no glass pentaprism.
