Historical Context

The Olympus LT Zoom 105, introduced in 1997, is a fascinating intersection of late-90s point-and-shoot technology and high-fashion vintage aesthetics. While it shares much of its inner workings with the wildly popular mju/Stylus series of the era, the LT (standing for “Leather Tech”) line was explicitly designed as a premium, upscale lifestyle accessory for photographers who wanted an elegant camera that didn’t require a carrying case.

The LT Zoom 105 reads standard DX-coded 35mm film across a massive range from ISO 50 to 3200. If a non-coded or hand-rolled canister is inserted, it defaults to ISO 100 (an incredibly useful default compared to cameras that drop down to ISO 25). For collectors looking at the Quartz Date versions, keep in mind that the calendar function only programs up to the year 2030.

Because the LT series was an upmarket, boutique release compared to the ubiquitous standard black or silver plastic zooms, it is highly sought after by collectors for its beautiful industrial styling.
