The Yashica Lynx 5000 IC (often designated on the body faceplate as the Yashica IC Lynx-5000E depending on production timing and target markets) was released around 1968. It stands as a fascinating technological bridge in Yashica’s fixed-lens 35mm rangefinder lineage.
While the famous Electro 35 family completely automated the shooting process via aperture-priority electronics, the Lynx 5000 IC was built for purists who demanded full manual control over both shutter speeds and f-stops, but wanted a highly advanced electronic guidance system to read ambient light.
The defining upgrade of this specific Lynx variant is the “IC” badge, which stands for Integrated Circuit. In the late 1960s, transitioning a camera’s metering system from primitive, bulky discrete transistors to a solid-state integrated circuit chip was cutting-edge space-age marketing. This IC chip stabilizes the power delivery from the battery to the CdS light meter eye, making the exposure feedback significantly more accurate, responsive, and less prone to drifting over time.
True to the legacy of Yashica’s premium fixed-lens rangefinders, the camera is anchored by a massive, razor-sharp Yashinon 45mm f/1.8 lens (a 6-element in 4-groups double-Gauss formulation). This lens is deeply loved by analog enthusiasts for its performance when shot wide open.
